Donald Trump has blamed President Biden and Vice President Harris for the latest apparent assassination attempt against him, claiming that their rhetoric was inspiring violence against him. It follows the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh in Florida, after secret service officers opened fire on a man armed with an assault rifle, concealed in woodland where Mr Trump was playing golf. Donald Trump said of the suspect: “He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it… Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out.” The latest incident took place months after a gunman opened fire on Mr Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, wounding the former president in the ear and killing one supporter in the audience.
