The IOM has warned that the current situation in the Mediterranean that could mean more and more people are disappearing at sea. The number of migrant boats leaving Libya for Europe has increased four times on last year and at the same time there are less search and rescue missions in operation. NGO boats are struggling to get out due to coronavirus restrictions while for the past few years European countries have shifted responsibility for rescues to the Libyan coastguard.
